Modern Wing Chun Revolution: One Day Only with Bill Graves

Modern Wing Chun expert Bill Graves comes to Southern California for this highly comprehensive, one-day only seminar.

Quietly about his research and development for over 28 years, Bill Graves is dedicated to developing the most effective self-defense system the world has ever known. He is now bringing about a Modern Wing Chun Revolution.

Wing Chun, in itself, is a martial art and self-defense system misunderstood from day one. Misunderstood by traditionalists. Misunderstood by progressives. Misunderstood by its resistance to change itself into a sport for the masses. Misunderstood by many who learn it. Misunderstood by many who teach it. And misunderstood by it's most famous practitioner, Bruce Lee.

Modern Wing Chun, however, as Bill Graves' teaches it, is an art without limitations. Much different than what people perceive the art of Wing Chun to be.

But Bill Graves is different. His interpretation of Wing Chun is different. His teacher, Karl Godwin, is different. His modern, Western-influenced approach to Wing Chun is different.

He has developed a picture-perfect example of what Wing Chun should be for the modern world. And now, the demand for this modern approach to Wing Chun is growing at an unprecedented level.

This is the Modern Wing Chun Revolution... nothing short of extraordinary!

The new "Karate Kid" movie doesn't have any Karate in it. It's actually about Kung-Fu.

Karate is a Japanese martial art. However, the new remake of The Karate Kid is set in China and features Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan. Hence, the movie uses Kung Fu instead of Karate. Despite these differences, it is still a remake, so it has the same name, even though the setting is different and it focuses on a completely different martial art.

The movie centers around a 12-year-old boy from Detroit who moves to China with his mother and gets bullied. He makes an unlikely ally in the form of a maintenance man, Mr. Han (played by Jackie Chan). Little does he know, the maintenance man is a kung fu master who teaches him the secrets to self-defense and how to stand up for himself.

A new kung fu school in Dana Point teaching the Chinese martial art wing chun plans to offer free lessons to the first 100 people who attend its public grand-opening event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 19.

The Dragon Institute will offer the lessons (one per family) at an event that also will include a blindfolded kung fu demonstration and giveaways such as wing chun DVDs and T-shirts.

The institute, which calls itself the only wing chun facility in Orange County, will open its doors to the business community Thursday with demonstrations, giveaways and networking. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for noon, with Dana Point Mayor Steven Weinberg and Councilman Joel Bishop attending with owner Adam Williss.

Wing chun has been taught to military and law-enforcement agencies around the world, including the Navy SEALs, the FBI and CIA, according to the Dragon Institute. It is a self-defense system intended to finish a fight as quickly as possible.

The institute, 34241 Pacific Coast Highway, offers classes to adults and children 4 and older. For more information, call 949-939-4117.
