Ip Man 2: Legend of The Grandmaster

The martial arts spectacular that's been breaking box office records across Asia (beating the likes of IRON MAN 2) comes to the big screen in America in its full uncut and undubbed glory. International megastar Donnie Yen plays Grandmaster Ip Man, the sifu of Bruce Lee. Ip Man is a newcomer to Hong Kong who simply wants to teach Wing Chun,but a curropt local, played by Sammo Hung, andther ruling Brits have other ideas. Less a sequel than a companion piece to IP MAN, you don't need to have seen the first to appreciate the sheer ass-kicking on display here.

Leung Sheung: Ip Man's First Student in Hong Kong

In the movie Ip Man 2, the story centers on Ip's move to Hong Kong as he begins to make a living teaching Wing Chun. There is a character who plays Ip Man's first student in Hong Kong who is nothing like Ip Man's real first Hong Kong student.

Ip Man's real-life first student in Hong Kong was the legendary Leung Sheung. Here are some points about Leung Sheung to help you to know more about him.

  • Leung Sheung was Ip Man's senior-most student. This includes all of Ip Man's students including Bruce Lee.
  • Despite Leung Sheung's decided expertise, he chose to be a humble advocate of Wing Chun. Always advocating Ip Man's abilities instead of his own.
  • Leung Sheung firmly maintained that only practical application can verify theory.
  • Leung Sheung is responsible for recommending Ip Man for his first Wing Chun teaching job at a time when Ip Man was alone and destitute.
  • If it were not for Leung Sheung, Ip Man may not be credited today with being the first person to teach Wing Chun to a wider public.
  • Leung Sheung was widely recognized by his peers for his achievement and superior skill in Wing Chun.
  • Leung Sheung was particular known for his exceptional abilities in chi sao (sticky hands). It was often said that one learning from Leung Sheung was certain to develop genuine skill in chi sau.
  • Leung Sheung was the first student of Ip Man to teach in Hong Kong (1957)
  • Leung Sheung's long-term students are known to be some of the best in the world today. Kenneth Chung is of particular note.

Wing Chun Open House

Celebrate the art of Wing Chun at our 6mo Anniversary!

Can you believe it? We've been open for a full 6 months! It's time to come celebrate our half-year anniversary... Kung Fu style!

It's an exciting time! We're so happy to be able to bring this great art to everyone who has been joining our school to learn authentic Wing Chun.

For six months, we've been proud to be the first Wing Chun school in Orange County. We've been humbled to have the honor of representing Wing Chun in Orange County (at our great new location on PCH in Dana Point).

The event will include a Wing Chun demonstration including the Mook Jong (wooden dummy) as well as the Wing Chun one-inch punch.

A raffle for attendees will include special give-aways including Wing Chun DVDs and apparel. If you haven't seen the award-winning Wing Chun movie, Ip Man, we'll be giving away a limited number of DVD's featuring the legendary Wing Chun master. Appetizers will be served as well as kung fu store discounts and class specials.

Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu

Ip Man Wing Chun is unlike any other martial art, self-defense or kung fu style in the world. Ip Man Wing Chun Kung Fu, as the name suggests, is the Kung Fu Lineage of the legendary Grandmaster of Wing Chun, Ip Man (sometimes referred to as Yip Man).

Ip Man is the person responsible for advancing Wing Chun Kung Fu to its eminence today. He was the first Sifu (teacher) ever to open a public Wing Chun school spending his whole life as champion of the cause of Wing Chun Kung Fu.

They say the sign of a good teacher is their student's ability. Ip Man taught many outstanding martial artists, none more well-known than the late Bruce Lee.

At the time of his death in 1972, Ip Man could have never imagined that his name would be remembered among the most distinguished international martial arts grandmasters in history. Today, Ip Man Wing Chun belongs at the top of a very prestigious list of self-defense systems that have changed the face of martial arts forever.
