International Wing Chun Day

Founded in 2010 by Sifu Adam Williss, International Wing Chun Day is held annually on the 3rd Saturday in March. This year, Wing Chun Day falls on Saturday, March 19th.

The day educates millions worldwide about Wing Chun's benefits and raises awareness about local classes. In cities all over the world Wing Chun practitioners will be planning events to promote the art of Wing Chun in all its forms.

These forms include its many spellings, lineages, modifications and evolutions including Wing Tsun, WingTsun, Ving Tsun, Jeet Kune Do, JKD, Weng Chun, Yong Chun, Jun Fan Gung Fu, Hung Fa Yi, Shaolin Wing Chun, Wing Tzun, Wing Tjun, Vinh Xuan, TsunJo Wing Chun, Wing Chun Do, Xiong Jiang Wing Chun and many more.

Led by Mario Hostios, direct descendant of Ip Man's senior-most student, the seminar will cover all ten sections of Ip Man's original mook jong form as passed down from the late Leung Sheung. The seminar is open to the public and will cover material suitable for both beginning and experienced students. ABOUT MARIO HOSTIOS Mario Hostios is a Los Angeles-based Wing Chun instructor of the Leung Sheung Wing Chun lineage. His teacher is one of the best modern Wing Chun practitioners in the world, Karl Godwin. Mario has instructor status under Karl Godwin having trained under his guidance since 1993. Chinese New Year 2011 Year of the Rabbit

Welcoming in the Year of the Rabbit, our Chinese New Year celebration was held on Saturday February 5th, 2011. It included an Open House and Wing Chun Demo featuring our adult students sparring, demonstrating chi sao, a wooden dummy exhibition and a live display of the one-inch punch. Kids also demonstrated Wing Chun's famous chain punching, partner drills, stance training and the wooden dummy. Homemade dim sum and chinese tea was complimentary.

Fist of the Red Rebel

My first school was named Fist of the Red Rebel. It's name was taken from the history of Wing Chun as it evolved in the secret rebel societies of old-time China. As time went on, the name came to take on a rebellion against complexity and lack of reality-based focus that was so prevalent in the many other approaches to martial arts. We focused so heavily on making sure our movements were simple and focused and just couldn't understand why other martial arts schools didn't. I mean, why was almost everything they did technique based as opposed to concept based. Being techinque based makes things so complicated. Wouldn't it make more sense to make concepts their guide in order to stay simple and flexible in their approach?

Looking back, we had it right. We still feel a rebellion from the mainstream. Other schools are still making things technique based. They're still training for sports-based competition rather than real self-defense. They're still not keeping it simple and to the point.

As our new school takes hold in the community, our martial arts family continues to build. More and more students are joining us in the rebellion against mainstream martial arts and keeping it simple.... REAL simple!
